How does camp drop-off work?
Drop off is a one hour window of time. When you arrive, you will check your child in, provide us with the names of anyone who can pick up your child at the end of the program and settle any outstanding balances. You will then go through a basic health check with your child, they will pick up their name tag, and then you may move them into their cabin. How does pick-up work? You may arrive to pick your camper up at the designated time. Before you arrive your camper will have finished cleaning and packing so they are ready to go. We usually end our programs with a closing worship that will end when check out begins. Can I send my child mail at camp? Of course! Letters and care packages are welcome, but if there are snacks, please send enough for the whole cabin-- around 12 campers. Here's how to address packages: Camper Name Camp Wrightwood 1401 Linnet Road, Box 66 Wrightwood, CA 92397 Does my child need to attend a Methodist church to go to Camp Wrightwood? Nope! While we are rooted within the United Methodist tradition, you do not have to be a Methodist in order to be a part of our community. Our programs will be influenced by the UMC and we will adhere to the Social Principles of the California-Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church, but our doors are open to all campers and counselors seeking a faith community. Does my child need to attend church to go to Camp Wrightwood? Nope! Our programs are centered around teaching campers about Christian living, not creating Methodists, but they do not have to be church members to attend, or even Christians. They just have to come with an open mind, willing to learn and be in community with others. Is camp inclusive? In accordance with the Social Principles of the California-Pacific Conference of the United Methodist Church, camp has Open Hearts, Open Minds, and Open Doors. We welcome people from all different backgrounds regardless of race, socioeconomic status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or denominational identity. All of our programs welcome campers with no previous camp or church experience. What kind of activities are there? Days at camp are filled with all kinds of fun-filled, educational experiences. One favorite at camp is capture-the-flag, complete with team war paint. Campers also go swimming, learn archery, or play other games that teach them communication and teamwork skills. Prayer stations give campers the opportunity to experience their faith in new ways, from writing letters and drawing pictures to walking through a prayer labyrinth. Throughout the week, campers meet in Koinonia (Greek for "community") groups. This is an age based progressive program. Each year, 3rd grade through 12th, our campers learn a piece of the Christian Story. Campers learn about the formation of Christianity, the creation of the Methodist Church, and how to live as people of faith out in the world. The goal of the program is to teach campers about the context with which they are living and camping in. Each year campers earn another piece of their badge as they complete the Koinoinia program. What is the food like? Ask kids what they're grateful for during their stay at camp, and most answers will be the same-- camp, and camp food. Note that we can also accommodate dietary restrictions, with gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, and allergen-free options. |
